ON NEGBA FESTIVAL - Southern Italy Jewish festival - September 6 – September 10, 2009
Five centuries ago Jews have been thrown out from Southern Italy
From then on, Jewry has lost all tangible contacts with most of Sothern Italy.
Today Negba Festival - a Jewish festival looking into the South - aims to be an important step in rebuilding, in this area, the ancient intercultural society.
With this aim the Union of the Italian Jewish Communities – UCEI - in cooperation with the Jewish Community of Naples intends to shape links with local authorities and cultural bodies.
Negba Festival will take place from September 6 to September 10, 2009 all over Puglia.
Trani – a famous town in Puglia - has been chosen as the Italian leading site for the European day of Jewish Culture (September, 6) because here a Jewish cultural presence is still living and can interact with the surrounding society.
Both Shabbat and Rabbi’s lectures will be held in the Scolanova Synagogue in Trani. Shabbat meals are also available.
Trani’s Jewish families are glad and proud to welcome all guests coming from abroad so to share a real Italian Jewish experience and identity.
